Gradient City
Year: 2019
Site: D.R.C. Africa
Featured in the Berlin Built Environment Exhibition and Aedes Architecture Forum News, this collaborative project began in a vertical design studio at the University of Houston, which proposed transitional communities for refugees in the form of speculative urban masterplans. The site, a thin strip up a mountainside in Central Africa, reaches varied altitudes and temperatures to promote diverse vertical farming. At the base of the site, aquaponic stations, sustainable fish farming, and markets are scattered along a centralized grid, activating an axis of commerce to support the local population.
