Year: 2017
Site: Downtown Houston, Texas
field06 imagines an adaptive culture of space through form and its relationship to time. Located in Sam Houston Park along the edge of Downtown Houston, the site showcases several historic homes and a single chapel exhibited by The Heritage Society. Displaced from their original settings around the greater metropolitan area, these small scale buildings have outgrown their intended functions and inhabit entirely new spatial contexts. In order to generate a project that expresses this transformation through history, a public infrastructure is proposed through the entire site.
Exploiting their identity as museum objects, these buildings and exhibition spaces for civic education are suspended into the proposed structural field to reposition them in their proper context. The field is then socially integrated through the temporal spaces it has promoted and what reconceptualizations of the urban have orbited within it.
